The One Year Checkup

December 17th was our scheduled one year check-in and Ellis and Shea caught the 7:05 ferry while Ian got Kieran off to school and watched the high tide and winds buffet our bulkhead.
Jenean and Christine again helped out by doing some Christmas shopping for the Children's staff and providing moral support for us.
Ellis was fairly blasé about the whole affair taking it all in stride (blood draw, anesthesia, surgical waivers, etc.). We ran into our favorite anesthesiologist in the hallway, Dr. Denise Joffe, and she gave us reassurances and congratulations. She even came in during her break while Ellis was in recovery just to chat a bit. Amy, one of our ICU nurses of last year, stopped by to say "Hi" while we were prepping for surgery.
Around 11 o'clock Ellis went back to surgery bravely and Dr. Rubio chatted with us about the purpose of the surgery and the possible side effects. After a couple hours of tense waiting we were paged to say that she was out of surgery and in recovery stage one and shortly after we were called back to wait with her while she laid flat for several hours. She watched Ice Age: Continental Drift which got some giggles out of her! But the main topic of conversation was FOOD. Nearly 24 hours without food was NOT what she wanted.
Ellis hiding in the dark during recovery.
So when we got discharged around 7pm we drifted down to Blue C Sushi and she stuffed her face with some Sesame Noodles and cooked sushi dishes. She was happy again. Relaxed on the ferry ride home and met grandma and Kieran @ home before hitting the sack.
Amazingly uneventful for our little champion. She has to to miss several days of PE which seems to disappoint her, but she's doing fine.
Dr. Rubio and Dr. Yuk Law gave us the grade for her new heart's condition and rejection (initial reactions) which was GREAT! One slightly elevated pressure in the left ventricle, but everything else was awesome at first glance. Ellis and Shea get thumbs up for taking care of this wonderful gift. We will get finalized numbers by Wednesday probably.
