New Year Post Day 1

Hope everyone's New Year's was enjoyable. We ran over to Children's in the AM of the first and had a fairly quick ER visit. Did vitals and such and then Dr. Yuk Law came in and explained his plan of attack. The echocardiogram showed that the heart function is similar to previous scans, but the fluid buildup around the heart has increased. It might be causing the heart to work a little harder than necessary (increasing the HR and slowing down the relaxing of each beat).
Going to attempt two things. Started a new diuretic (diuril) immediately in hopes that it would help flush out the fluid. We will return on Tuesday AM to gauge its effectiveness. If fluid is not diminishing, then we will schedule a cardiac catheterization to double check for rejection and proceed to drain the fluid while under anesthesia (this would happen on Thursday). If that is the case, we might be able to just TAP the fluid and not leave the drain line in as before. Tapping would be just a day visit. I believe that if a drain was left in, then we would be re-admitted for a couple days.
Ellis has a great few days at home either way. She has enjoyed many baths (dad has learned that we need a new on-demand hot water heater with all the bathing). She has gone on a few walks and visited a few places on the Island including Blackbird Bakery. Shea and Ian are adjusting to the new regimen of medication and IV flushing. Kieran and his sister are having a great time being back together.

  1. Really hoping & praying that the diuretic works! But whatever happens, we know that Ellis is a FIGHTER & will come through this hiccup just fine!
