Day one - Rocktober 1

"Reluctantly crouched at the starting line.
Engines pumping and thumping in time . . ."

Ellis was pretty sure that she did want to start this long race today, but like the strong, bold and determined girl she is - into Children's Hospital she marched at High Noon.
The whole gang, Kieran, Ian, Shea and Ellis walked from Whale to the ICU and made a big scene as most patients arrive on a gurney or in a chair. Things were fairly quiet and the attentive staff got us quickly up to speed on what was in store. Our first kiwi nurse hit it of with Ellis well and she walked us through was was a stressful admission.
Ellis is committing to the road to transplant by walking in here today. She knows that and it's a bit scary for all of us. She's smart and knows most of the issues surrounding the current med. dosing that she's on and what that means long-term.
The IV staff came in quickly and inserted a picc line to help with the heavier duty mess that Ellis will be on for a while. It was a bit traumatic as it is quite a procedure requiring sterility and care. Dad even screwed up and touched her foot during the procedure causing a contamination alert, though no real problems! Ellis did great and we had fun with her afterward as she weened off the drugs.
Mom has some video which I might post later.
Things calmed down as the IV push began and we watched iCarly, ate some food and relaxed. Dad and Kieran went back to BI at 8:00 leaving Shea and "Mini me" to enjoy the attention of the ICU team. Hope they get some sleep. . .
More tomorrow.
